For those who couldn't make it to the birthday 50th celebrations....we had our own Classic Mini display in the Showroom.
Here's Joanne Kaslow, Service Advisor at Stratstone MINI admiring a 1968 Austin Mini Cooper. This car has been fully restored using a brand new British motor heritage body shell as a base, this car features desirable options such as period reclining seats, twin s.u. carbs and a powerful 1380cc engine. Built with no expense spared, and finished to a high standard this Mini provides its owner with a reliable and head turning car able to keep up with the cut and thrust of modern traffic and still retaining it's period looks!
Our Mini Sales Team are pictured here with the Minisprint, which was a development of the original 1959 Mini. First designed by Neville Trickett in the mid 1960's and was designed as a way of making the standard Mini even more competitive in competition. By removing 1.5" from the body and a further 1.5" from the windows the Sprint had a far more agressive streamlined look.
The look of the Minisprint proved so popular that withing a year of the car first being produced it was in full scale production as a road car. Some 300 Minisprints were produced during the original production run.
This Classic MINI Racer was kindly donated by Mini Spares Harrogate for the weekend. This 1961 Morris Mini is fitted with 1071cc engine, and races in several series, often supporting high profile events such as the BTCC touring cars or British GT's. Revving to 9500rpm and making 86bhp, a low weight of 600kgs and fantastic road holding make for an exciting drive! This car is loved by the crowds, who like to see nothing better than a MINI beat a bigger car, which is always a possibility when it rains!
David Harrison our Service Manager squeezes into one of the classic MINI's on display.
Perhaps this Minisprint is not the best choice for David, as this car has had 1.5" removed from the body line and a further 1.5" from the windows, to give it a more agressive and streamlined look.
